Goals & Objectives

Our goals this year are very clear. There are three main goals listed in order.

  1. TO DEVELOP SOFTBALL SKILLS
  2. TO BE COMPETITIVE
  3. QUALIFY FOR NATIONALS
  4. HAVE FUN
We hope to accomplish these goals through a series of practices, tournaments, social events and out of town tournament travel.
  • The practices will be 2-3 hours every other week while the high school season is ongoing. These practices will usually be held on Sunday mornings.
  • The tournaments will be heavily focused on qualification for the ASA "A" National Championships or NSA 'A" Championships.
  • The Social events will include fundraising activities, team spaghetti feed, and any additional activities we can coordinate while traveling.
Expectation

This is a Junior Olympic "A" level softball team. It is not a recreational or "B" level team. The commitment by the players, coaches and parents is significant. The coaches expect a lot from the players because they are ALL strong players. On the other hand, every player needs to improve in multiple areas. The coaching style of the Wolfpack coaches is one that will strive to push each player to play up to their potential and they recognize that each player may be at a different stage or level at certain skills.

Playing Time

Every effort will be made to play all players during pool play; however there is no guaranteed minimum level of playing time. Not every player will play in ever game. The players may not play a specific position that a parent may want them to. All players must be capable of playing multiple positions. We are very comfortable with the skills each player has today, and they will get better over the course of the season.

Player Conduct

Violation of the following will result in verbal warnings or if severe enough immediate consequences (verbal warning, benched for next game, team expulsion).
  • Be respectful to all umpires, coaches, players, and parents.
  • No foul Language.
  • No horse play/teasing during practice or tournaments.
  • When attending tournaments, include all players in activities -(No Cliques).
  • No criticisms or put downs of coaches or players.
  • Curfew will be observed - room checks will start 15 minutes before curfew.
  • If a player is not with the team at designated warm-up time before a tournament game, she will not start that game.

Player Responsibilities

  • Attendance at practices is mandatory. Absences should be pre-arranged by calling any of the coaches.
  • Practice times will be announced and you will be notified in advance of any necessary changes in the schedule.
  • Players should arrive 10-15 minutes prior to practice start time. At the start of practice, all players should be fully ready to play with all the necessary equipment.
  • Players are expected to have all personal equipment with them at all practices and games.
  • Appropriate softball practice clothes are to be worn during practices. Jeans, short shorts, and bare feet are not acceptable. Wolfpack game uniforms are not to be worn for practice.
  • Players should be prepared to slide at each practice.
  • Players are responsible for the set up and pick up of all equipment at practices and games.
  • Players are expected to demonstrate positive attitudes and good sportsmanship at all times on and off the field.
  • Between games, players will be required to rest and stay together as a team - until released by the coaches.
  • Uniforms will be distributed prior to the start of the tournament season. It is expected the one (1) uniform will be returned at the end of the season.

Parent Responsibilities

The Wolfpack Fastpitch Softball team is comprised of a team of Players, Coaches and PARENTS. Therefore, for the team to meet the goals and objectives, every part of that team has to be committed to being involved this year. Without strong participation from EVERY parent or guardian, the road to success will be difficult.
  • Parents will refrain from sideline coaching during practices and games. Parental interest is needed and encouraged, but "side line coaching" and emotional displays are detrimental to the individual player as well as to the team. Conflicts, which arise when young adults are "coached" by individuals outside the coaching staff, result in confusion and slow progress of the individual player and the team's performance.
  • The dugout and the player's bench are off limits to parents during games. If parents do not abide by this, their daughter's playing time will be affected.
  • Do not discuss negative opinions of coaches or teammates in front of players. It hurts the individual player and team unity. It is crucial that parents avoid undermining the respect players must feel and demonstrate for the coaching staff and each other.
  • Parents having concerns or questions regarding team activities or coaching strategies should be addressed with coaches directly at a time away from the game field or tournament. Every consideration will be given to your concerns; however, it should be understood that the best interest of the entire team takes priority.
  • Parents will be expected to volunteer for various team functions.
  • If a parent cannot attend a tournament with their daughter, try to send your daughter with another family. It may be possible to have the unaccompanied player stay in a room adjacent to Coach Bill's room.
